Mardi Gras 2016

San Diego's Mardi Gras celebration went down on the Saturday before Fat Tuesday last week and I was able to attend for the second time since moving here in 2012. Amateur hour is an understatement but If you can get over the massive amount of bro's and immature hot college girls with fake id's then you should be able enjoy one hell of a party. The Music has never disappointed. I've seen Bone Thugs perform Crossroads live and Snoop Dogg dj Cyndi Lauper tracks all on the same blocked off street. The vibe over all has been fun and friendly. Nothing like the video and recollection of Seattle's shitty 2012 Mardi Gras mentioned below.

We do some weird shit to celebrate religious Holiday's in the USA.

I remember Mardi Gras back in 2001 when I wasn't even old enough to drink legally yet but my older gf at the time wanted to go downtown and check out the scene in Pioneer Square in Seattle. As we arrived the streets were littered with degenerates. I took us almost an hour to travel barely a mile down 1st ave. Luckily for us we were able to escape before the pandemonium broke out.

Fat Tuesday in Seattle has never been the same and the draw of crowds has dramatically decreased year by year. Probably for the better I presume. It's a damn shame when the community cannot come together in celebration without violence. Granted  the sole purpose of Fat Tuesday is to binge on less desirables before a period of fasting known as Lent starting on the following day of Ash Wednesday. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, repentance of sins, atonement and self-denial. While one could consider the gruesome acts displayed in the video as a binge of their sins before a period of fasting of less desirable actions... I personally think those were just shitty human beings who acted on evil animal instincts fueled by alcohol and a large crowd. One of the many reasons I stay away form night club scenes now a days.
